MOSCOW (AP) — A delegation of the Taliban visited Moscow on Thursday to offer assurances that their quick gains on the ground in Afghanistan do not threaten Russia or its allies in Central Asia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the Kremlin envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, met with the Taliban delegation to express concern about the escalation and tensions in northern Afghanistan.

The ministry said Kabulov urged the Taliban “to prevent them from spreading beyond the country’s borders.”

“We received assurances from the Taliban that they wouldn’t violate the borders of Central Asian countries and also their guarantees of security for foreign diplomatic and consular missions in Afghanistan,” the ministry said.

The Taliban are sincere. They spent 20 years in the desert. they do not want to spend another 20. They also could have been part of a coalition government 10 or so years ago, but they refuse to compromise. It is their way or the soccer stadium.

They might earnestly want good relations with Russia and China now, but they will continually reassess. As soo as they see weakness or feel strong at home they will go on autopilot. They swill send missionaries to the stans to preach their version. It is sending missionaries that set this off in the 1st 50 years ago. If any stans deemed weak they will covertly move their imams their to preach. They will have Gulf charity money backing them up.
