President Biden To Give His First State Of The Union Address On March 1
* President Joe Biden has agreed to give his first State of the Union address to Congress on March 1 after receiving an invitation from Speaker Nancy Pelosi
* It would be the first State of the Union address since the pandemic began
* Pelosi touted Biden's leadership amid the pandemic in her letter and said he has 'guided America out of crisis'
* The president is expected to discuss the US recovery effort, as well as his stalled $1.75 trillion Build Back Better social spending bill
President Joe Biden has accepted House Speaker Nancy's Pelosi's' invitation to deliver the annual State of the Union address to Congress on March 1 as she touted him for 'guiding America out of crisis' despite the ongoing COVID surge.
It would be Biden's first State of the Union address, where he is expected to discuss the nation's recovery efforts from the pandemic as well as his proposed $1.75 trillion Build Back Better bill, which has been put on hold after facing opposition from moderate Democrat Sen. Joe Machin.

Meet Iain Lanphier, the Scottsdale, Arizona 8th-grader who attended the State of the Union Address Tuesday night as one of President Donald Trump's special guests. Lanphier got a standing ovation in the packed House of Representatives as Trump introduced him.
"Iain has always dreamed of going to space. He was first in his class and among the youngest at an aviation academy," Trump said. "He aspires to go to the Air Force Academy, and then, he has his eye on the Space Force. As Iain says, 'most people look up at space, I want to look down on the world.'"

House Speaker Pelosi Did Have A Plan To Tear Up Trump's State Of The Union Speech All Along
A canny observer caught Nancy Pelosi practicing tearing Trump's speech under the table and posted a clip showing the sneaky move

* Mike Pence accused Nancy Pelosi of planning all along to rip up the president's State of the Union speech
* 'It felt like it,' the Vice President said, but Pelosi spokesperson told DailyMail.com it was not pre-planned
* But a canny observer caught the speaker practicing the move under the table and posted a clip showing the move
* 'The Vice President's complicity in last night's reality show is disgusting,' Pelosi spokesperson Drew Hammill said
* Pelosi got a rock star welcome from her Democratic Party when she met with them in the Capitol Wednesday morning
* They gave her a standing ovation when she talked about tearing up speech
* 'He shredded the truth so I shredded his speech,' she said
Mike Pence accused Nancy Pelosi of planning to rip up the president's State of the Union speech all along, an accusation the speaker's office denied.
But a canny observer caught what appears to be the Speaker actually practicing the moves under the table before the speech was over.
Camera from behind the Speaker also shows the pages 'pre-ripped' as Pelosi made her final move when the President's speech was over.
The vice president said on 'Fox & Friends' Wednesday morning that, 'It felt like it,' when asked if the speaker had planned her move ahead of time.

My Impressions On President Trump's State Of The Union Address

From the beginning to the end the speech touched all emotions. The speech was also partisan, delivered in a very partisan chamber. No surprises there. This year is an election year
To begin. The President chose his wedge issues well, focusing on Democrat positions when it comes to immigration, free health care for illegals, abolishing private insurance, and late term abortions. President Trump's focus on the black community in his speech was also well done and effective. It is clear that he wants their vote, and he is making the effort to gain it. A few weeks after the 2016 election, Steve Bannon discussed in an interview on how just gaining 20% of the black vote in 2020 will insure an easy second term for President Trump. I think that strategy is at play right now, and my gut is telling me that it is working.
President Trump's focus on the economy was not a surprise. This is what is going to get him re-elected later this year, and he knows it. He also has the numbers to make the case
Rush Limbaugh getting the Medal of Freedom during the State of the Union was an incredible sight. But the moving reaction from Kayla Mueller's parents, and the reunion of Amy and Townsend Williams .... you cannot helped but be moved on the sacrifices that these people have made, and who are still making it.
No mention of impeachment. President Trump did not want to dignify it, unlike many in the main stream media who were sure that he was going to mention it.
The animosity between President Trump and House Speaker Pelosi was obvious right from the start. President Trump kept it inside, even though some are saying that he avoided shaking the Speaker's hand at the beginning. But when I look at the video (after the 2 minute mark of this video), I do not think he had noticed that she had put her hand out. Not surprising, the Speaker is pushing her side of the hand-shake story (see her tweet here). But House Speaker Pelosi ripping up the speech behind President Trump's back when he was finished was deliberate and IMHO probably planned. Make no mistake about it. That is someone who has an enormous amount of hatred towards the President, and she wants the world to know it.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump vowed in his State of the Union speech on Tuesday to build a border wall, which is a source of a deep partisan divide, and said Democratic attempts at “ridiculous partisan investigations” could damage U.S. prosperity.
Trump spoke to a joint session of the U.S. Congress facing political discord over his demands that Democrats end their opposition to funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall he says is needed to stem illegal immigration and smuggled drugs.
During his 82-minute speech, he outlined his political priorities without providing specific policy details.

Will There Still Be A U.S. State Of The Union Speech?

Daily Mail: The State of the Union address is 'tentatively set for February 5' after Trump cut a deal to reopen the government
* The State of the Union address may take place on February 5, sources say
* The speech was formerly slated for January 29 but was postponed due to the partial government shutdown that finally ended on Friday
* Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi requested the speech be delayed on January 16 until the government was running again
* Trump says he'll sign a spending bill to reopen the government for three weeks
* On Friday Pelosi said the address 'is not planned now' and she and the president will work on a 'mutually agreeable date'
The State of the Union address may take place on February 5 now that the federal government is set to reopen.
Donald Trump's presidential address was formerly scheduled for January 29 at the House Chamber but it was postponed due to the partial government shutdown that is now the longest in U.S. history.
The shutdown was finally brought to an end on Friday after it stretched to its 35th day.
Despite the government getting back on its feet, it's reportedly 'not physically possible' to hold the annual speech next Tuesday, a source tells Fox News.

WNU Editor: The Speaker's Office is saying that there will be no State of the Union Speech this week .... Trump's State of the Union address is still not happening Tuesday despite shutdown ending, Pelosi says (USA Today). If in the end there is no State of the Union Speech .... this will be unprecedented. As for the government shutdown being "resolved" .... it is not resolved. While many do not believe there is a crisis at the border, many others do. We will be back to to square one in three weeks.

* She told the president he would only be welcome in Congress when the government shutdown is over
* He admitted shortly after that he would not be delivering his address, as planned, on Jan. 29 to a Joint Session of Congress
* He exploded on her in Oval Office remarks in which he said it's a 'disgrace' that she's interfering the annual tradition
* 'Well do something in the alternative,' he said. Trump told reporters the details of his new event would come at a later date

The Hill: Pelosi: Trump 'very silent' on postponing State of Union
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday said she’s heard nothing from the White House in response to her request to postpone President Trump’s Jan. 29 State of the Union address while parts of the government remain shuttered.
Addressing reporters in the Capitol, Pelosi appeared surprised that the president — known for lashing out at critics in Congress, the media and beyond — has been so quiet since she asked for the postponement Wednesday morning.
“We haven’t heard. Very silent, more than 24 hours,” she said.

This State of the Union speech will probably take place in the Senate .... Update: The White House has "responded". Her planned trip to go to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan has been postponed. She will need to fly commercial .... Trump strikes back at Pelosi (Politico).

Reuters: Trump fixes gaze on Republicans during speech to U.S. Congress
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said in his speech to Congress on Tuesday that he wanted to extend an “open hand” to work with both parties on issues like immigration but he spent most of the address facing Republicans while seldom glancing at Democrats.
In the House of Representatives chamber where Trump delivered his first “State of the Union” speech, Republicans, who sat to Trump’s left, showed their enthusiasm as he touted tax cuts and boasted of the economy’s performance.
From the Republican side of the room, Trump received around 70 standing ovations.
But Democrats, who sat to Trump’s right, were mostly silent. Many wore black, an expression of solidarity with victims of sexual misconduct that added to the funereal mood on their side of the room.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue is the “designated survivor” for President Trump’s first State of the Union speech.
A White House spokesman confirmed to The Hill that Perdue will not be present for the address Tuesday night, instead spending it in a secure location.
For every State of the Union or presidential address to a joint session of Congress, a Cabinet member is chosen to sit out as a precaution for an incident such as an attack on the Capitol.

U.S. Army Ranger Honored At The U.S. State Of The Union
The Biggest Applause Of The State Of The Union Was For This Man -- San Jose Mercury News
It wasn't the president who received the longest applause at the State of the Union.
To end his fifth State of the Union on Tuesday, President Obama called on Congress to honor Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg, an Army ranger who was nearly killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan and who suffered a traumatic brain injury. He sat next to Michelle Obama during the State of the Union as a guest of honor.
The entire Congress stood up to applaud Remsburg in a bipartisan ovation that lasted more than a minute and a half, one of the longest ever recorded.
