Warzone/The Drive: Armed F-15C Eagle Skidded Off Runway During Emergency Landing At Andrews Air Force Base

The incident occurred after the jet suffered an "in-flight malfunction."

Pictures emerged on social media of an accident over the weekend at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland involving an F-15C Eagle from the Oregon Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing. The fighter skidded off the runway and lost its radome after making an emergency landing. The pilot did not suffer any injuries, thankfully.

Joint Base Andrews Public Affairs Office confirmed the mishap to The War Zone and said that it had taken place on May 2 at around 1:30 PM local time. There were no major impacts on the base's operations as a result.

The pictures showed that, in addition to the nose radome getting sheared away, the F-15C's landing gear collapsed and the drop tank under the aircraft's right wing got crushed. The jet's radar antenna, likely an active electronically-scanned array for the AN/APG-63(V)3, was also missing.

This Fighter Jet Passenger Was Flung Out At 2500ft After Grabbing The Ejector Seat Handle To 'Steady Himself'

Then he shot out at high speed, losing his helmet that had not been fastened round his chin properly, before landing in a field close to the German border. The plane is marked here 'Avion' in the subsequent incident report

Daily Mail: Pensioner, 64, who was given a surprise flight in a fighter jet as a retirement present was flung out at 2500ft after grabbing the ejector seat handle to 'steady himself'

* He panicked during the flight near Saint-Dizier airforce base in northern France
* The man landed using his parachute and ended up in a field with minor injuries
* The French Airforce and the Defence Ministry are called to review procedures

A pensioner who was given a surprise flight in a £70million fighter jet as a retirement present was flung out at 2500ft after grabbing the ejector seat handle to 'steady himself'.

The astonishing drama is outlined in a newly released report by French aviation investigators who have stern words for their country's Airforce and government throughout.

At times, it reads like a dark comedy film script, as it describes how the unidentified 64-year-old panicked and screamed with fear during his first flight in the Rafale-B which took off from Saint-Dizier airforce base, in north-west France last March.

Then he shot out at high speed, losing his helmet that had not been fastened round his chin properly, before landing in a field close to the German border.

Watch This Massive C-5M Super Galaxy Land Without Its Nose Gear

Popular Mechanics: Watch a Massive C-5M Super Galaxy Land Without Its Nose Gear

An extremely skillful landing.

A C-5M Super Galaxy landed without its nose gear at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland a few months ago, the first incident of its kind in years. Now, there's footage of the incident.

The C-5 was on a routine training mission over the Alamo City when it came in for a landing on March 15 with a crew of 11 on board.

The flight was a training mission that involved pilots, flight engineers and loadmasters. The crew discovered the nose landing gear wasn’t lowering while preparing to land at Lackland. That prompted them to declare an in-flight emergency.

No one was injured, but the failure of the plane’s nose gear came after an Air Force order to ground all C-5 cargo planes so a faulty ball screw assembly could be replaced in all 56 of them. The grounding, ordered Aug. 2, 2017, came after two C-5M cargo planes based at Dover AFB in Delaware had problems with their nose gear.

ABC News Online: Southwest Airlines: Meet Tammie Jo Shults, the heroic ex-fighter pilot who safely landed stricken plane

The pilot who safely landed a stricken Southwest Airlines flight was one of the first female fighter pilots in the US Navy, and was accustomed to touching down F-18 fighter jets at 150 miles per hour on aircraft carriers.

Tammie Jo Shults, 56, may have drawn on her Navy skills when one of the two engines on her Boeing 737-700 blew and broke apart at 32,000 feet on Tuesday (local time), forcing her to implement a rapid descent towards Philadelphia International Airport.

A woman died and seven others suffered minor injuries in the incident, which happened shortly after the Southwest Airlines jet departed New York bound for Dallas. Passengers were praised for clinging to a woman who was partially sucked out of a window broken by shrapnel from the exploded engine.

But Ms Shults might never have become a pilot if she had not been so determined to fly from a young age.

U.S. Navy Investigating How An U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler Flight Went Spectacularly Wrong

An US Navy EA-18G Growler. USN

The Warzone/The Drive: Freezing Navy EA-18G Crew In Ice Filled Cockpit Navigated Home Using Their Smart Watches

The plane made it back to base, but the potentially deadly mishap is the latest spectacular failure for the Growler's environmental control system.

A U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler recently made it back to base after suffering a terrifying mid-air mishap, which left its two-person crew flying blind and frostbitten after the aircraft’s environment control system failed in part thanks to a pair of high-tech wrist watches. The incident occurred just over a year after the canopy on another one of the electronic warfare planes exploded in a bizarre over-pressurization incident and as the service continues to struggle to find exactly what’s causing persistent reports of “hypoxia-like” symptoms across the F/A-18 Hornet, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, and Growler fleets.

Defense News was first to report this new incident, which occurred approximately 60 miles south of Seattle, Washington. The EA-18G, assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9), was flying at approximately 25,000 feet on a mission from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, between Seattle and Vancouver BC, when the cockpit temperature plummeted to -30 degrees Fahrenheit.

U.S. Troops Killed In Plane Crashes Has Skyrocketed This Year

FOX News: US troops killed in plane crashes skyrockets in 2017

Even before the Navy cargo plane crash Wednesday, the number of U.S. troops killed in plane crashes had skyrocketed this year along with the total number of crashes overall compared to this point a year ago, a Fox News investigation has uncovered.

So far this year, there have been 22 U.S. military non-combat plane crashes flying routine operations. That’s up 38 percent from this time last year.

The number of American troops killed in these plane crashes has more than doubled. Following the announcement by the 7th Fleet Thursday night that it has ended its search for three missing American sailors hundreds of miles off the coast of Japan, the number of U.S. service members lost to plane crashes in 2017 stands at 37. That is more than 130 percent higher than the number killed in non-combat plane crashes at this point in 2016.

Many on Capitol Hill say years of budget cuts are taking a toll.

In Just One Month Three Eurofighters Have Been Involved In Deadly Crashes

RSAF EF2000. Gordon Zammit/wikicommons

Warzone/The Drive: Three Eurofighters Involved In Deadly Crashes In Just One Month (Updated)

The crashes come as the future of the EF2000 production line is in question.

A spate of deadly crashes has struck the international Eurofighter community. Three mishaps in the span of just one month have led to the loss of aircraft and pilots, and although the incidents seem unrelated at first glance, clearly investigators will be looking into systemic training or procedural issues that could have been factors in the crashes.

Today's loss occurred following the aircraft's participation in a flyover for to celebrate Spain's National Day. The aircraft came down in a farmer's field near Los Llanos Air Base, which is located in southeastern Spain, near the town of Albacete. The base is a major hub of Spanish tactical jet flying and houses a squadron of Eurofighters as well as being home to NATO's renowned Tactical Leadership Program. According to reports, it doesn't seem as if the pilot tried to eject.

U.S. Air Force Will Not Reveal The Type Of Aircraft That Was Involved In A Fatal Crash In The Nevada Desert

Popular Mechanics: Did the Military Crash a Mystery Plane in the Nevada Desert?

The Air Force isn't revealing any details about a "classified" aircraft involved in fatal crash.

The U.S. Air Force has refused to reveal the aircraft involved in a crash last week that claimed the life of the pilot. The incident, which took place at a training facility in Nevada, has sparked speculation that some kind of previously unknown aircraft was involved.

The incident took place on Tuesday, September 5. Unusually, the Air Force waited about three days to make the crash public. Consider two other crashes the service reported last week, one involving two A-10 Thunderbolt fighters and the other an Iraqi Air Force officer flying an F-16. In both cases the incident was reported the next day.

The more cryptic accident took place on the Nevada Test and Training Range, about 100 miles northwest of Nellis Air Force Base. The NTTR bills itself as the "the largest contiguous air and ground space available for peacetime military operations in the free world", with 2.9 million acres of land and 12,000 square miles of airspace to test equipment and train U.S. military forces.

US Military Plane Crashes On The Rise

FOX News: US military plane crashes on the rise as aging fleet continues breaking down

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Coast Guard continues to search for Army soldiers who went missing after their Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed in the waters off Hawaii Tuesday night.

It was the latest in a series of high-profile accidents involving military aircrafts – raising questions about their safety. Experts say the recent crashes underscore the pressing need to update the military’s aging aircraft fleet, which is increasingly putting members of the military at risk.

Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, said he’s concerned about U.S. military’s readiness to fight.

“We've got a lot of ground to make up for the good of the nation and for the good of the men and women who are risking their lives by flying,” he told Fox News recently.
