Navy Times: Richard Marcinko, first commanding officer of SEAL Team Six, dies 

Retired Navy SEAL and the first commanding officer of SEAL Team Six, Richard “Dick” Marcinko, has died, according to a post on the Navy Seal Museum’s Facebook page. 

He was 81. Marcinko led the SEAL team in what has become known as the Navy’s most successful SEAL operation during the Vietnam War: the May 1967 assault on Ilo Ilo Han. 

Marcinko and his men killed many Viet Cong and destroyed six of their sampans, according to the Navy SEAL Museum. 

Marcinko deployed a second time with SEAL Team Two during the Vietnam War. His platoon assisted Army Special Forces during the Tet Offensive.

Military.com: Navy Prepares for Discharges of Sailors Who Refuse COVID Vaccine 

The Navy said Thursday it is ready to dole out discharges -- either honorable or general -- to sailors who do not take one of the COVID-19 vaccines by a mandatory Nov. 28 deadline. 

Sailors who refuse the shot can be reassigned while their cases are heard, and will not be promoted or given any other orders -- even if they have a pending exemption application, according to new administrative guidance sent to the fleet. 

Senior officers were ordered to be inoculated immediately, and will be given five days to comply once notified by a superior or face detachment for cause proceedings. 

If separated, they won't be eligible for involuntary separation pay and can have any unearned special or incentive pays recouped. 

"An unvaccinated senior leader without a pending or approved exemption calls into question the Navy's trust and confidence regarding their ability to ensure unit readiness or to maintain good order and discipline," the memo said.

Human Events: Navy SEALS Told They Won’t Be Deployed Without COVID Vaccine 

Hundreds of Navy SEALS are risking being blocked from deployment after failing to get vaccinated, according to a lawyer and pastor counseling them. 

As reported by Just the News, the number of SEALS involved in the dispute with the Pentagon amounts to as many as a quarter or more of all active members, a loss that could impact military readiness. 

Some SEALS were given a deadline to get the vaccine and have sought a religious exemption.

Business Insider: Navy SEALs have to go 'back to the future' to help US warships survive a future fight with Russia or China 

* As the US military focuses on great-power competition, special operators are rethinking their role. 

* The Navy SEALs in particular are thinking hard about how they can support the regular Navy forces. 

* "It's a race for relevancy," Adm. Hugh Howard, head of Naval Special Warfare Command, said in June. 

Earlier this year, Navy SEALs and Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen operators worked with conventional Navy forces in the final certification exercise of the USS Eisenhower Strike Group before it deployed. 

During the exercise, Navy special operators were the eyes and ears of the carrier strike group, assisting with over-the-horizon targeting, strategic reconnaissance, and close air support.

Navy SEALs have been ordered to immediately provide urine samples for drug testing after the elite teams scaled back testing during the pandemic to limit exposure to COVID-19, it has been reported. 

The SEALs, whose ranks have reportedly been plagued by the use of illegal drugs such as cocaine, were ordered by Commander Rear Admiral Hugh Howard to provide the samples on May 19, CBS This Morning reported.

They told her that while the vast majority of their fellow SEALs serve honorably, there is a corrupt element in their brotherhood.

A US Navy SEAL accused of sexual assault after a Fourth of July barbecue in Iraq last year claims that he was the victim even though bruises were seen on the face of the woman who made the allegation.

A witness, US Navy intelligence specialist Colleen Grace, was asleep on a remote air base in Iraq when she was woken up by knocking on the door next to her room, and then a voice she recognized.

The voice belonged to a Navy corpsman she knew. He was upset and speaking loudly to the Army colonel who lived next door.

How long is Navy boot camp?

The Intercept: SEAL Commander Who Clashed With Trump to Leave Early

The commander of the Navy SEALs who found himself at odds with President Donald Trump over disciplining a notorious member of his force has informed the Navy that he will step down a year early, according to three people familiar with the decision.

Rear Adm. Collin Green, commander of the Naval Special Warfare Command, will leave his post in September, two of the people familiar with his decision said.

Green was widely viewed as a reformer who was willing to hold his command accountable. His departure follows two years during which he sought to repair the vaunted military unit’s image after a slew of criminal charges against SEALs, including war crimes, murder, drug use, and sexual assault. Green had publicly told his force that the SEALs had a “problem” and that some members of the unit were “ethically misaligned.”

The trail of events that led to me being fired as secretary of the Navy is marked with lessons for me and for the nation.

It is highly irregular for a secretary to become deeply involved in most personnel matters. Normally, military justice works best when senior leadership stays far away. A system that prevents command influence is what separates our armed forces from others. Our system of military justice has helped build the world’s most powerful navy; good leaders get promoted, bad ones get moved out, and criminals are punished.

FOX News: Trump declares Navy will not take away Eddie Gallagher's SEAL Trident, as attorney blasts admiral

The attorney for Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher said on "Fox & Friends" Thursday that the Navy is trying to humiliate his client by potentially taking away his SEAL Trident, as President Trump reaffirmed his support for the embattled soldier.

"This is an action that they could have taken at any time from July right after the verdict, until today," his lawyer Tim Parlatore said. "President Trump takes action on a Friday afternoon — Monday morning, the admiral [Adm. Collin Green] comes in and brings everybody together and says 'I disagree with the president, we're going to take his Trident.'"

A top Navy SEAL officer is defying President Donald Trump’s defense of Chief Petty Officer Eddie Gallagher by sending his controversial case to a military review board which could result in his ultimate expulsion from the SEALs.

On November 15 Trump reversed the demotion of Gallagher, a Navy SEAL who acquitted of murder this summer, and restored his title of Chief Petty Officer. The president also pardoned two other officers jailed for war crimes as well.

Trump’s grant of executive clemency has been harshly criticized over violations of international humanitarian law.

Task & Purpose: Top Navy SEAL admiral fires entire leadership team of SEAL Team 7

The top admiral in charge of Naval Special Warfare has fired the entire leadership team of SEAL Team 7 over a "breakdown of good order and discipline," a spokeswoman for Naval Special Warfare Command told Task & Purpose on Friday.

Cmdr. Edward Mason, the commanding officer of ST7; Lt. Cmdr. Luke Im, the executive officer; and Command Master Chief Hugh Spangler were all relieved of their leadership posts on Friday, said Cmdr. Tamara Lawrence.

The relief was carried out by Rear Adm. Collin Green, the commanding officer of NSW. Lawrence said their relief was "due to a loss of confidence that resulted from leadership failures that caused a breakdown of good order and discipline within two subordinate units while deployed to combat zones."

The spokeswoman declined to name who would take their place, citing operational security concerns for those SEALs and their families.

U.S. special operations forces have embraced civilian vehicles, from trucks to ATVs, to get around quickly and quietly on the modern battlefield. At sea this practical attitude means that Navy SEALs operate their own jet skis, allowing naval special warfare operators the ability to move quickly from sea to shore in very small numbers. But SEALs aren’t the only ones zipping around on personal watercraft—Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also use them.

CNN: Allegations of sexual assault, cocaine use among SEAL teams prompt 'culture' review

Washington (CNN)In the wake of several high-profile scandals, including allegations of sexual assault and cocaine use against Navy SEAL team members, the four-star general in charge of all US special operations has ordered a review of the culture and ethics of the elite units.

"Recent incidents have called our culture and ethics into question and threaten the trust placed in us," Gen. Richard Clarke, head of Special Operations Command, said in a memo to the entire force.

While the memo did not mention specific incidents, it comes after an entire SEAL platoon was recently sent home from Iraq following allegations of sexual assault and drinking alcohol during their down time -- which is against regulations.

Another recent case involved an internal Navy investigation that found members of SEAL Team 10 allegedly abused cocaine and other illicit substances while they were stationed in Virginia last year. The members were subsequently disciplined.
