Joe Biden has said he will not allow peace in Northern Ireland to become a "casualty of Brexit" if he is elected US President in November.

The Democratic candidate said any UK-US trade deal had to be "contingent" on respect for the Good Friday Agreement.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has been trying to reassure US politicians about the latest Brexit developments during a trip to Washington.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he trusted the UK to "get this right".

But US Speaker Nancy Pelosi said there was "no chance" of a UK-US trade deal getting through the US Congress if the UK violated international agreements, undermining the Good Friday Agreement.

After a meeting with Mr Raab, the Speaker of the House of Representatives said the UK's exit from the EU could not be allowed to "imperil" peace in Northern Ireland.

Spy planes, intelligence officials, military barracks and other US assets being assessed

The White House is said to be reviewing whether spy planes, intelligence officials and other US assets are at risk and need to be pulled out of Britain after Chinese telecom giant Huawei was engaged to help build the United Kingdom’s 5G network.

According to reports in The Telegraph, a group of highly sophisticated reconnaissance spy planes, the RC-135s, are thought to be among the most vulnerable US assets based in Britain.

Anonymously quoting half a dozen current US and UK officials, the report said the Trump administration’s review is underway but not yet public and could hold major ramifications for the “special relationship” between the two countries.

LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump was “apoplectic” with Boris Johnson during a phone call to discuss the British prime minister’s decision to allow Chinese firm Huawei a role in Britain’s 5G mobile phone network, the Financial Times reported on Thursday.

Citing unnamed officials in London and Washington, the FT said the president was livid during the exchange last week after Johnson’s government said Huawei could have a limited role in building Britain’s 5G mobile network, despite warnings from the Trump administration.

The paper said one individual who was briefed on the contents of the call on Jan. 28 said Trump was “apoplectic”. It cited another who said the call was “very difficult” and Trump’s tone had taken aback British officials.

When asked about the FT report, Johnson’s office said they had nothing to add to their statement released soon after the leaders’ call to discuss the Huawei decision.

The Chinese company will be given access to “non-core” parts of the network but will be banned from “sensitive locations” such as military or nuclear sites.

The decision comes amid warnings from the United States and Tory MPs that giving Huawei access to 5G could jeopardise transatlantic intelligence sharing.

On Tuesday the National Security Council, which comprises the Prime Minister, senior Cabinet ministers and representatives of the security services, decided to proceed with the Huawei deal even though it is a "high risk vendor" because its risks can be "safely managed".

Britain's Ambassador to Washington has described Donald Trump as 'inept', 'insecure' and 'incompetent' in a series of explosive memos to Downing Street.

Sir Kim Darroch, one of Britain's top diplomats, used secret cables and briefing notes to impugn Trump's character, warning London that the White House was 'uniquely dysfunctional' and that the President's career could end in 'disgrace'.

His bombshell comments risk angering the notoriously thin-skinned President and undermining the UK's 'special relationship' with America.

In an extraordinary speech for a politician who could one day have to work with Mr Trump, the Labour leader did not mention the President by name but played on familiar themes of his critics in a high-energy speech.

Mr Corbyn also sprung to the defence of London Mayor Sadiq Khan one day after he was called a 'stone cold loser' by Mr Trump - and suggested the President had 'created a greater sense of hate and hatred'.

The 70-year-old politician who hopes to one day become Britain's prime minister spoke as tens of thousands of protesters failed to turn up to anti-Trump demonstrations today which had been billed as a 'carnival of resistance'.

President Trump says the United States and the United Kingdom have an 'extraordinary alliance' and the top ally will get a 'great trade deal' after it leaves the European Union.

'It's the greatest alliance the world has ever known,' he said at a joint news conference on Tuesday afternoon with British Prime Minister Theresa May in London.

May's final day in office is this Friday. She resigned after failing three times to convince Parliament to accept her Brexit deal.

Trump predicted that Brexit would eventually happen, saying, 'This is a great, great country, and it wants to have its own identity.'

* Meghan Markle, who Trump called 'nasty' earlier this week, did not attend the lunch
* Hours before his arrival, the president tweeted that London Mayor Sadiq Khan is a 'stone cold loser'
* He is due to attend a state dinner on Monday night which will also be held at Buckingham Palace
* The president will spend Tuesday hosting business talks with Theresa May and will fly to Ireland on Wednesday to visit his resort

President Trump received a warm reception from Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the British royal family at Buckingham Palace on Monday on his first day of three day trip in the United Kingdom.

The president was joined by First Lady Melania Trump for the visit which included a reception in the palace's garden and a lunch.

Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, also attended the meal but Meghan Markle did not.

Before sitting down for lunch, the Queen greeted Trump outside. They shared an awkward, closed-fist handshake which had Twitter users wondering whether the bashful president had fist-pumped the 93-year-old monarch.

The former head of the US military has warned pursuing British veterans through the courts system could threaten the UK's military alliance with America.

General David Petraeus, who oversaw US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, said Britain's military capabilities could be 'greatly diminished' if human rights laws were not balanced against the laws of warfare.

Speaking on Thursday, Petraeus said: 'The very special relationship between our two militaries, which has been built over decades of serving shoulder-to-shoulder in the hardest tests of battle, could be put at risk by the present situation.'

President Donald Trump has warned Theresa May that her soft Brexit plan would 'kill the deal' between the US and Britain on trade, in an incendiary interview as his visit to Britain begins.

He also said the prime minister has ignored his advice on Brexit negotiations, explaining: 'I would have done it differently'.

Talking to The Sun before his trip to Britain, he said: 'If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal. I actually told Theresa May how to do it, but she didn't listen to me'.

Sources close to the president earlier warned that a lucrative transatlantic trade deal would be impossible if the UK keeps close ties with Brussels - effectively meaning Britain must choose between the US and EU.
