The strikes have increased in frequency over the past months following Hamas' attack on 7 October.

US intelligence Believes Iran And Its Proxies Are Seeking To Avoid A Wider War With Israel

CNN: US intelligence currently assesses Iran and its proxies are seeking to avoid a wider war with Israel

The US intelligence community believes – for now – that Iran and its proxies are calibrating their response to Israel’s military intervention in Gaza to avoid direct conflict with Israel or the US while still exacting costs on its adversaries.

But the US is also keenly aware that Iran does not maintain perfect control of its umbrella of proxies – in particular over Lebanese Hezbollah, the largest and most capable of the various groups. Hezbollah is an ally of Hamas, the group that attacked Israel on October 7, and has long positioned itself as fighting against Israel. US officials are deeply concerned that the group’s internal politics may cause Hezbollah to escalate simmering tensions.

The US also does not always have perfect visibility into the communications between Iran and its various proxies, according to sources familiar with US intelligence in the region.

WNU Editor: We shall see if Iran is committed to avoiding a wider war with Israel. But I am skeptical. I do not see any de-escalation in the Israel - Hamas war, and tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continues to remain high. The Houthis in Yemen have already declared war against Israel. It will not take much to spark this into a major regional war.

Iran Calls On Arab Nations To Impose An Oil Embargo On Israel And To Expel Israeli Ambassadors

FOX News: Iran calls on Arab nations to impose oil embargo on Israel, expel ambassadors

OPEC plans to ignore Iran's demands, reports say Iran called on its Arab-majority neighbors to impose an oil embargo on Israel as the Jewish state wages its war against Hamas.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Wednesday called for the embargo and for nations within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to expel all Israeli ambassadors.

OPEC, the organization of largely Arab nations that overseas oil production in the Middle East, has no plans to impose such an embargo, Reuters reported Wednesday. The organization has no special or emergency meetings planned to discuss such a move.

Is Israel Feeling Cornered By Iran?

Bloomberg: As Iran Emerges From Isolation, Israel Is Feeling Cornered

(Bloomberg) -- Early this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a mock wartime meeting of his security cabinet in a bunker. Communities in northern Israel are preparing shelters for a long-term conflict. And the military is working overtime on a new laser system to intercept rockets.

Their focus is Iran and its nuclear ambitions.

For years, Israel has considered a nuclear-armed Iran to be an existential threat, and directed its energies to confronting it and its regional proxies in Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian areas.

But much is new in the past few months. Iran has emerged from diplomatic isolation, forging a key military alliance with Russia from which it’s seeking air defenses, restoring diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia and pushing its allies to fire missiles at Israel. It is also enriching more and more uranium, including a small amount almost to weapons grade — while denying any plans for making a bomb.

WNU Editor: The Middle East is rapidly changing. The wars that have engulfed the Middle East for the past few years appear to be ending, and Iran is restoring ties with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states. But more importantly there is a growing perception in the Middle East that U.S. power and influence in the region is in decline, a scenario that does not favor a country like Israel that is heavily dependent on US economic and military aid.

Nuclear Tensions Continue To Grow Between Israel And Iran

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant delivers a video message at an Israel Air Force base on May 23, 2023. (The Ministry of Defense)

Al-Monitor: Israeli brass sounds alarm on Iran's readiness to launch nuclear attack

Israeli officials are watching tensely as intelligence indicates Iran is working on the detonation mechanisms needed for a nuclear bomb.

TEL AVIV — Israeli security chiefs have become especially worried recently, not only over Iran’s moves to enrich uranium, but also on Tehran's rapidly growing capabilities to launch a military nuclear attack.

Even in amid speculation about a US push to forge a historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia, Israel’s top commander sounded an ominous warning. Speaking on May 23 at the annual Herzliya Conference, Lt. Gen. Herzl Halevi warned of negative developments that could lead to Israel taking action against Iran.

Jerusalem Post: Iran has enough uranium for five nukes, not just one - Gallant

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant revealed on Thursday that Iran currently has enough enriched uranium for five nuclear weapons, should it decide to weaponize that uranium and complete the detonation and delivery tasks for firing a weapon. “Iran is not sufficing with one nuclear bomb.

It has already accumulated enough enriched uranium at the 20% and 60% levels for five nuclear bombs,” the defense minister told his hosts during a visit to Greece.

Gallant added, “If Iran enriches to the 90% weaponized level it would be a great error, and the price would be heavy and there would be consequences which could inflame the Middle East.”

Israel Believes Iran And Its Allies Have Begun A Multi-Front Conflict With Israel

Jerusalem Post: Iran kickstarts multi-front Middle East war against Israel - analysis

The Islamic Republic's proxies and allies appear to have begun a multi-front conflict with Israel over the past week.

A week of attacks on Israel, including rockets fired from Lebanon, Gaza and Syria, represents the manifestation of an Iranian strategy to confront Israel with multiple threats on different fronts. Although different groups may be behind the attacks from those places, these groups are likely all linked to Iran. The groups involved include Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and others that may go by different or new names, but which are proxies of Tehran.

Iran has long sought to bring its conflict with Israel to the Jewish state’s borders. Its backing of Hezbollah and Hamas was key to that strategy over the decades. For instance, Tehran supplies Hamas with financial support and also helped it develop longer-range rockets and a larger arsenal. Whereas Hamas rockets could once only travel a few kilometers, now they can reach most parts of Israel.

The Islamic Republic also supported Islamic Jihad, which is even more of an Iranian proxy than Hamas. The group not only has an arsenal thought to include thousands of rockets, but it has gunmen in the West Bank and its leadership often resides in Damascus.

Grossi, who had just returned from a visit to Tehran, said on Saturday that “any military attack on a nuclear facility is outlawed, is out of the normative structures that we all abide by,” when asked by a reporter about threats from the United States and Israel to attack Iran if negotiations to curb its nuclear program are unsuccessful.

Times Of Israel: Netanyahu said to huddle repeatedly with military brass over possible attack on Iran

TV report says PM held 5 meetings with defense minister, IDF chief, Mossad head, Military Intelligence chief; he tells conference world must back up promise to thwart nuclear drive

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly held a series of secret high-level meetings with top military officials aimed at upping preparations for a possible confrontation with Iran.

According to a Channel 12 report on Tuesday, the premier huddled five times in recent weeks with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, Mossad head David Barnea, Military Intelligence chief Aharon Haliva and other military brass to discuss readying for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear program.

The report, which was not attributed to any source, included few other details about the discussions, and may itself be designed to telegraph the seriousness of Israeli threats to resort to military action in order to shut down Iran’s suspected drive toward a nuclear weapon, which Netanyahu has described as an existential threat.

French Media Says Israel Has Identified ‘3000 Targets’ Inside Iran That Will Be Struck In A War

EurAsian Times: Israel Identifies ‘3000 Targets’ Inside Iran To Strike Its Critical Military Infra – French Media Report

Iran recently accused its fiercest rival and adversary in the region, Israel, of a drone attack on its military facility and vowed retaliation for the incident. In contrast, Israel is allegedly planning to stitch an anti-Iran military coalition to wipe our Iranian nukes.

Corresponding with Iran’s ferocious warning, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his first visit to France after he returned to power. As speculated, the interaction between the two countries leaders was dominated by the Iranian question.

French President Emmanuel Macron denounced Iran’s “headlong race” to build its nuclear program following a meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu at the Élysée Palace. This is significant as recent local French media reports have claimed that Israeli outreach to France is part of a plot to stitch an anti-Iran military coalition.

WNU Editor: I am skeptical that such an anti-Iran military coalition would form let alone strike Iran.

Such a conflict will result in the immediate closure of the Straits of Hormuz to oil traffic, and a loss of almost a quarter of the world's oil production.

$300/barrel for oil and the economic shock-waves that such a war would unleash is something that the West is unprepared for. I also sense that there is no Western public appetite to get involved in such a conflict, nor any real political will.

In the letter sent Wednesday and published Thursday, Iranian Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said he wanted to draw the UN’s attention to “further instances of the Israeli regime’s acts of terrorism and sabotage as well as violations of international law against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Officials Say Israel Launched This Saturday's Drone Attack On Iranian Facility

Jerusalem Post: Israeli drone attack on Iranian weapons factory was phenomenal success - sources

The Islamic Republic claimed that the drone attack had failed and only cause minor roof damage.

Despite Iranian claims, the Israeli drone attack on Iran at Isfahan was a tremendous success, according to a mix of Western intelligence sources and foreign sources, The Jerusalem Post initially reported on Sunday morning. Several hours later,

The Wall Street Journal came out with a similar report, stating that Israel and the Mossad were behind the attack, citing US officials.

There were four large explosions at the military industry factory, documented on social media, against a facility developing advanced weapons. The damage goes far beyond the “minor roof damage” that the Islamic Republic claimed earlier Sunday and has falsely claimed in past incidents.
